L’USS United States est une frégate en bois de 44 canons à trois-mâts de l'United States Navy. Elle est la première des six frégates dont la création fut autorisée par le Naval Act of 1794 afin de défendre les intérêts américains en mer. Elle a une longue et glorieuse carrière, avant d'être réformée en février 1849 et abandonnée à l'arsenal de Norfolk, en Virginie. Capturée par les Confédérés en avril 1861, elle leur sert pendant environ un an, sous le nom de CSS United States. Reprise par les troupes nordistes, elle est finalement déconstruite en 1865.
