- John Muir (né le 21 avril 1838 et mort le 24 décembre 1914) est un écrivain américain, né en Écosse. Il fut l'un des premiers naturalistes modernes, militant de la protection de la nature. Ses lettres, essais, et livres racontent ses aventures dans la nature et la vie sauvage, notamment dans les montagnes de la Sierra Nevada en Californie ; très lus à son époque, ils sont encore très populaires aujourd'hui. Son action a contribué à sauver la vallée de Yosemite et d'autres espaces sauvages. Le Sierra Club, qu'il a fondé, est à ce jour une des plus importantes organisations de protection de l'environnement des États-Unis.
