La Société travaillait pour éduquer le public sur les abus de la traite négrière, aidant ainsi a l'abolition de la traite internationale des esclaves en 1807, imposée par la Royal Navy. La Société est, en 1823, remplacée par l'Anti-Slavery Society qui travaillait elle à abolir l'institution de l'esclavage dans toutes les colonies britanniques.
