Impliqué dans une série d'affaires judiciaires, il a plaidé coupable en septembre 2014 pour corruption d'un officier de police israélien de haut rang. Il a été condamné le 12 mai 2015 à un an de prison et à une amende de 1 million de shekels. Il a commencé à purger sa peine de prison le 16 février 2016[réf. nécessaire]. Après sa libération, il est devenu le grand rabbin du Maroc en 2019. (fr)
