Il est localement appelé Sapin de Normandie ou Sapin de l'Aigle (Normandie), Sapin de croix (Bretagne), Sapin des Vosges, Sapin noir, Sapin à feuilles d’if, ainsi que Vuargne, Ouargne ou Warne (Pays de Savoie et Suisse), Sap (Provence, aire vivaro-alpine, Languedoc et Auvergne), Avet ou Aveth (Gascogne et Béarn), Ghjàllicu (Corse) et plus rarement Sapin argenté.
