  • L’Abyssinie (ou Al-Habash) est une région de la Corne de l'Afrique, située aujourd'hui dans le nord de l'Éthiopie, l'est du Soudan et le sud de l'Érythrée. Elle était habitée par les Habash ou Abyssins, qui sont les ancêtres des Habashas actuels (Amharas, Tigrés). Les Abyssins sont évoqués pour la première fois au Ier siècle dans Le Périple de la mer Érythrée (des instructions nautiques grecques) comme exerçant un vaste commerce avec l’Égypte.
